Ruakaka Motor Camp

Ruakaka Motor Camp is situated on the beachfront at Ruakaka. It is very clean, friendly and family orientated in park-like grounds, situated on 13ha of peninsular. It’s one of the largest camp sites in New Zealand with 225 power sites, 75 tent sites and 9 backpacker cabins. Safe estuary swimming and surf patrolled beach in the summer.

We are halfway between Auckland and the Bay of Islands (134 km north of Auckland and 30km south east of Whangarei). The perfect place to stop being only seconds from SH1.

Whether your sporting interest is walking, surfing, kite-sailing, swimming, fishing or golfing, Ruakaka and Bream Bay have it all. Within the Camp you’ll find an adventure playground and ¾ size tennis court.

There are plenty of boat ramps in the vicinity, including an all-tide one at Marsden Cove Marina.

There are two local markets where you can buy local wares and arts and crafts, at Ruakaka township and nearby Waipu. Waipu is only 10 minutes’ drive south, and is a historic town settled by Scottish people in the 1850’s.

Experienced cavers and abseiling enthusiasts will relish the opportunity to discover one of Northland’s best-kept secret, Waipu Caves. The main cave is 175 metres long and encloses one of the longest stalagmites in New Zealand (eight feet high and six feet in diameter!). Impressive limestone formations and a galaxy of glow worms are also present.

It is highly recommended to book in advance as the camp is almost always booked out from Christmas to mid-January; however the best time for sunny weather in recent times occurs from mid January through March when bookings are more readily available.
